The Farnesoid X receptor (FXR / NR1H4) is a ligand-induced transcription factor and a member of the nuclear receptor (NR) superfamily.

• Identified in 1999 as a bile salt-activated transcription factor.


• Plays a crucial role in various physiological processes.


• Essential for regulating intestinal innate immunity and homeostasis.

Farnesoid X receptor (FXR / NR1H4) was identified as a cell surface receptor for bile salts and they co-expressed in the enteroendocrine L cells.
