Clostridium clusters refer to a taxonomic classification of the genus Clostridium.
The genus was traditionally classified based on morphological and physiological characteristics, but with advances in genetic analysis, particularly 16S rRNA gene phylogenetic analyses, the genus has been reclassified into 19 clusters
The reclassification of Clostridium into clusters has also led to the identification of new genera and species combinations, as many organisms previously recognized as Clostridium species have been transferred to new or established genera. This reclassification is ongoing, with updates regularly provided on the List of Prokaryotic Names with Standing in Nomenclature
