Enterococcus & Nosocomial infection

Enterococci rank among the foremost multi-resistant pathogens found in hospitals. Their origins trace back to the period when animals first began to inhabit land, approximately 425 to 500 million years ago. The primary factors driving the speciation of enterococci are the fluctuating availability of carbohydrates within the host's gut. It is believed that life on land has shaped the specific characteristics that allow pathogenic enterococci to endure conditions such as desiccation, starvation, and disinfection in contemporary hospital environments. These traits have positioned them as prominent hospital pathogens.
