A domain of single-celled organisms which lack cell nuclei

Archaeal diversity can be characterized using the commonly employed 515F/806R primer set (and others), and their variety can be analyzed in the same way as bacterial diversity. The 16S rRNA gene is the most widely used marker gene for the Archaea, and their diversity is represented in reference data sets commonly used for Bacteria.
