Microbial Cultivation / Microbial Culturing

Researchers design culture conditions that mimic the gut environment. They use YCFA (yeast extract, casein hydrolysate, Fatty acids), Gifu anaerobic medium in an anaerobic workstation, as well as media enriched with rumen and blood and co-culture. This way, they imitate the symbiosis of the gut microbiota. Researchers also use next-generation sequencing and flow cytometry to isolate previously uncultivated bacteria.
