XXX - VSL#3 TM & Adiposity / Obesity

Study overview

It is a trial studying VSL#3 TM or placebo in twenty non-obese males during 4 weeks of consuming a high-fat (55% fat), hypercaloric diet (+1,000 kcal/day). (1)

Outcome measures

Dual X-ray absorptiometry to determine body composition, an intravenous glucose tolerance test to determine insulin sensitivity, and a skeletal muscle biopsy for measurement of in vitro substrate oxidation (1)

Results

The results showed that:

• Body Mass: The increase in body mass was less pronounced in the VSL#3 group (1.42 ± 0.42 kg) compared to the placebo group (2.30 ± 0.28 kg).


• Fat Mass: Similarly, fat mass increased less in the VSL#3 group (0.63 ± 0.09 kg) than in the placebo group (1.29 ± 0.27 kg).
