Probiotic supplementation's role in treating type 2 diabetes (T2D) is a subject of debate.
NCT06032988 - Bifidobacterium animalis lactis + Lactiplantibacillus plantarum + Lactobacillus acidophilus + Saccharomyces boulardii & Type 2 Diabetes (T2D) is a randomized clinical treatment trial studying the effects of Bifidobacterium animalis lactis + Lactiplantibacillus plantarum + Lactobacillus acidophilus + Saccharomyces boulardii or placebo in 91 randomized adults with type 2 diabetes (T2D) in Greece.
Effects of probiotics supplementation on glycemic control (HbA1c)
Significant reductions in HbA1c, fasting blood glucose, and total cholesterol were observed in the probiotic group compared to controls, even after adjusting for decreased adiposity. While no significant changes in gut microbiome diversity were noted, probiotics influenced several genera and metabolites related to diabetes.
The probiotic was well-tolerated and positively impacted metabolic parameters and adiposity indices.
