An experimental study to study fecal microbiota transplantation (FMT) or placebo from eight db/m mice in 16 genetically diabetic db/db mice revealed that FMT treatment in db/db mice alleviated several clinical indicators, including fasting plasma glucose, serum insulin, and oral glucose tolerance test results. Compared to non-diabetic control mice, db/db+PBS mice showed a decreased abundance of Ruminococaceae and Porphyromonadaceae, and an increased abundance of Rikenellaceae and Lactobacillaceae. FMT treatment reversed these microbiome changes. This study demonstrates that FMT can significantly impact the gut microbiome and metabolic health in diabetic mice, suggesting potential therapeutic benefits.
