Adherens junctions are found below the tight connection. They are composed of transmembrane proteins: E-cadherin and nectin, linked to the cytoskeleton by scaffolding proteins, and catenin and, again, connected to actin filaments
Cadherin and nectin engagement can both influence the stability of a junction.
