Trefoil Factor 3 (TFF3), or intestinal trefoil factor, is a peptide secreted by intestinal goblet cells, crucial for mucosal repair and protection in the gastrointestinal tract. It aids in epithelial restitution and wound healing, existing as a 59 amino acid homodimer, with expression regulated by food intake. TFF3 also modulates immune responses, influences cancer biology by affecting cell proliferation and resistance to apoptosis, and has roles in neuropeptide functions and airway remodeling in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. Its therapeutic potential is being explored for diseases involving epithelial damage and obstructive airway conditions.
