These are normal proteins that are overexpressed in tumor cells but can also be found at lower levels in some normal tissues. Because they are derived from normal (unmutated) genes, the immune system may be tolerant to them, and targeting them can sometimes lead to autoimmune side effects
NM23 proteins are aberrantly expressed in several different tumors. NM23-H2 is a novel HLA-A32-restricted Tumor-associated antigens (TAA) of Chronic myeloid leukemia / Chronic myelogenous leukemia (CML) cells.
