Ghrelin increases Gastric Activity in the Postprandial and Interdigestive Periods and Improves Appetite
Ghrelin lowers blood pressure in various conditions via the its Growth Hormone Secretagogue Receptor / Growth Hormone Secretagogue Receptor found in the heart, kidneys, and blood vessels.

Ghrelin is a peptide hormone released from gastric mucosal endocrine cells that serves as a ligand for Growth Hormone Secretagogue Receptor / Growth Hormone Secretagogue Receptor
The precursor peptide, preproghrelin, consisting of 117 amino acids, is cleaved to form proghrelin. This proghrelin is further cleaved by prohormone convertase 1/3 to produce the mature 28-amino acid ghrelin peptide. Before secretion, des-acyl ghrelin undergoes acylation by the hormone ghrelin-O-acyltransferase (GOAT), enabling its binding to the growth-hormone secretagogue receptor 1a (GHSR1a).
