= an evolutionarily conserved protein motif composed of 2–45 stretches of the amino acid leucine, each repeat being 20–29 amino acids long.
Leucine-Rich Repeats (LRRs) (C-terminal) are frequently used to sense bacterial components (1, 2, 3), thus raising the possibility that bacteria directly activate the inflammasome.
