Ulcerative colitis and Crohn's disease are two significant chronic inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD) characterized by notable intestinal inflammation. Probiotics are bacteria that enhance host health through their immunomodulatory activity (1).
XXX - Bifidobacterium bifidum 231 & Trinitrobenzolsulfonsäure (TNBS) colitis is an experimental study to evaluate Bifidobacterium bifidum 231 in a rat model with Trinitrobenzolsulfonsäure (TNBS) colitis (1).
In vitro adhesion assays and immunomodulatory effect of Bifidobacterium bifidum 231 on Interleukin-1 (IL-1) beta (IL-1F2) and Interleukin-10 (IL-10) in IEC-6 cell lines, alterations in colon gross morphology, histologically and biochemically, colonic interleukin-1β (IL-1β) and interleukin-10 (IL-10) mRNA and protein expression (1)
Bifidobacterium bifidum 231 sticks well to IEC-6 cells and boosts the immune system by increasing Interleukin-10 (IL-10) in IEC-6 cell lines. In live studies, rats got Bifidobacterium bifidum 231 (1.4×10^11 CFU/rat/day) showing anti-inflammatory effects. These effects were seen both on the surface and inside tissues. BIF 231 reduced TBARS and nitric oxide and increased GSH levels. In colitic rats, BIF 231 lowered IL-1β levels. At the same time, it raised IL-10 levels (1).
Bifidobacterium bifidum 231 exerted beneficial in vitro adhesion and immunomodulatory properties which facilitated the recovery of the damaged tissue in Trinitrobenzolsulfonsäure (TNBS) colitis (1).
