Damage of Goblet Cells causes loss of IEC integrity and permits the translocation of gut microbes and all gut antigenic load (metabolites, peptides, and proteins) into the submucosa, lymph nodes, and bloodstream.
This consequently enhances the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines and stimulates the GvHD itself (Intestine GVHD)
