The CNS contains 3 main types of glia: astrocytes and oligodendrocytes, microglia
Cells that produce myelin to insulate the axon and increase the speed of action potential propagation. They energetically support and communicate with neurons and astrocytes
However, oligodendrocytes have been suggested to have immunological functions in both health and disease
Oligodendrocytes are non-immune cells originating from a common lineage of neuronal progenitors within the neuroectoderm
Autoreactive T cells target oligodendrocytes
