In primary rat adipocytes, Butyric acid inhibits both basal and insulin-stimulated de novo .lipogenesis in a concentration-dependent manner. This process is linked to an increase in phosphorylation, which in turn inhibits Acetyl CoA carboxylase 1 / ACACA, an enzyme that acts as a rate-limiting factor in the synthesis of fatty acids. Significant inhibition was seen at the lowest concentration (1 mM).
