Cholesterol is a component of many sex hormones and vitamin D
One risk factor for cardiovascular disease is the ratio of “good” (High-density lipoprotein (HDL)) to “bad” Low-Density-Lipoproteins (LDL)
The cholesterol synthesized in the liver or ingested with food (especially animal fats) reaches the intestine. From there, it enters the blood via enterocytes as lipoprotein particles.
