Adaptor Protein (apoptosis-associated speck-like protein) (ASC) as an adaptor protein contains two domains: the Pyrin domain (PYD / PAAD / DAPIN) at the N-terminus and a CARD at the C-terminus. It is part of apoptosis. NFKB is activated, and the CARD recruits pro-caspase-1, which undergoes proximity-induced autocleavage to form the active caspase-1, which triggers the formation of Interleukin-1 (IL-1) beta (IL-1F2) and Interleukin-18 (IL-18).
